Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA is the oldest local football association in the world.
Forge Valley Community School have researched the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA.
It was originally called Sheffield Football Association and was formed in 1867 when an association was needed to organise the first ever football tournament, the Youdan Cup. 12 teams took part in this cup and the eventual winners were Hallam.
Members of this association are some of the oldest football clubs in the world, such as Sheffield and Hallam, and also some of the first football players.
The Sheffield Football rules were used until 1878 by the Hallamshire and Sheffield FA when they were merged with the Football Association’s rules.
In 1871 the first inter-assocation football match was organised between them and a London association.
